Here's a picture of Patrick in front of his Science Fair board. In case you haven't heard, he won the local McGregor Fair. He came in 1st in his category, Computer Science, and was named best project overall. He will take his project to Regionals at McLennan Co. Community College on February 24th and 25th. If he comes in 1st or 2nd at Regionals, he will advance to state. If you remember, he advanced to state last year in the physics category for his project on electromagnetic induction. We are told that the competition at the 7th grade level is very tough.
He has really enjoyed working on this year's project on light sensors and variations in light sources. He used a Lego Mindstorm robot equipped with a light sensor to test whether changing the color of the ambient room light would affect the light sensor and in turn the robot's performance. He had to learn to build and program the robot before he could even start his experiment.
Later, we'll post some video we took during the experiment.
